(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a water contact advisory Friday for sampling station 9 (Gulfport Harbor Beach). Advisories remain in effect for stations 10, 11, 11A, 12A, 12B, 14, 15, 19, and 20.
MDEQ Issues One Water Contact Advisory
An advisory is issued for:
►Station 9 -- Gulfport Harbor Beach -- from 20th Ave. east to Thornton Ave.
Advisories remain in effect for:
►Station 10 – Gulfport Central Beach -- from Alfonso Dr. east to Arkansas Ave.
►Station 11 -- Gulfport East Beach -- from Tegarden Rd. east to Anniston Ave.
►Station 11A -- Edgewater Beach in Biloxi -- from Debuys Rd. east to Edgewater Ave.
►Station 12A – Biloxi West Central Beach -- from Travia St. east to Iberville Dr.
►Station 12B – Biloxi East Central Beach -- from St. Peter St. east to Dukate St.
►Station 14 – Front Beach in Ocean Springs -- from the Yacht Club east to Jackson Ave.
►Station 15 – Shearwater Beach in Ocean Springs -- from Weeks Bayou east to Ashley Pl.
►Station 19 – Pascagoula Beach West -- from Oliver St. east to Westwood St.
►Station 20 -- Pascagoula Beach East -- from Westwood St. east to Grand Oaks Dr.
These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.
When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
