Change in Air Quality Standards for Lead

Change in Air Quality Standards for Lead
On October 15, 2008, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) changed the primary and secondary air quality standards for lead.
The new standard was changed from 1.5 micrograms per cubic meter (1.5 g/m3) to 0.15 g/m3.
MDEQ does not currently perform ambient air monitoring for lead. The new standards require that a lead ambient air monitoring site be
placed in the Jackson Metropolitan Area by January 1, 2011. Attainment/nonattainment designations will occur no later
than January 2012, based on 2011 lead monitoring data.
